1. Using in s ta lle r adapter J-21978-2 and tools called
out in Step 3 o f re m o v a l p roced u re, in sta ll bushing
(fig . 34) with o ffs e t o f bushing at top o f spring eye as
shown on F igu re 35.
2. L o w e r v e h ic le to position spring eye in hanger.
3. In stall spring eye b olt and nut. Tighten nut to 370
ft. lbs. and lo w e r v e h ic le on hoist.
Removal w ith Spring O ff Vehicle
If bushing is rep la ced with spring o ff v e h ic le , use a
p re s s , i f availab le, and adapters J-21978-1, 2 to rem ove
and re in s ta ll bushing.

fo r rem o va l and in stallation o f the spring eye bushing.
T h ere is no r e s tric tio n on the installed position o f the
va l (7000# ax les) bushing as in the case o f the o ffs e t type
5000# a x les) bushing (fig . 38).

On m odels so equipped, inspect cushion on spring re a r
hanger cam . R eplace if worn o r damaged.
Installation

p a ir expense. They must be rep laced with parts

stitute design. Torque valu es m ust be used as
s p ecified during rea ssem b ly to assu re p rop er
retention of these parts.
1. P la c e r e a r o f spring into r e a r brack et and ra ise
fron t eye into hanger.
2. In stall fron t p ivot pin and nut. Tighten nut 370 lb. ft.
H eavy Duty sprin g bushings are steel-b a ck ed bronze
and must be lu bricated p r io r to in stallation o f pivot
pin.
