5. R em ove the d irection a l signal cancelling cam. R e
m ove the d irection a l signal switch le v e r .
6. R em ove the column w irin g harness co ver.
7. R em ove the d irection a l signal switch screw s.
8. Rotate the d irection a l signal switch housing counter
clock w ise and rem ove the housing fro m the column.
NOTE:
The housing and switch cannot be fu lly
rem o ved fro m the column until the shift le v e r
housing is rem oved.
9. R em ove the p la stic thrust washer assem bly and then
re m o v e the shift le v e r housing (o r extension housing)
fro m the column.
10. Separate the d irection a l signal switch, switch control
support assem bly, d irection a l signal housing and
shift le v e r housing (o r housing extension) assem blies.
11. P r e s s the steerin g shaft upper bearin g out of the
switch contact support.
12. R em ove the shift le v e r housing (o r extension housing)
seat and bushing fro m the upper end of the column.
13. R em ove the bolt and screw s fro m the adjusting ring
clamp and rem o ve the clam p, adjusting ring and
lo w e r b earin g.
P r e s s the lo w e r bearin g out of the
adjusting ring.
14. 3-Speed Columns - R em ove ls t - r e v e r s e shift le v e r
and le v e r spacer.
Autom atic Columns - R em ove the s e le c to r plate
clam ping ring screw s (3).
15. P la c e the column upright on the flo o r , supporting it
with two p ieces of wood.
P la c e a block of wood on
the upper end of the shift tube.
P r e s s down on the
shift le v e r with foot while tapping on the wood block
to withdraw the tube fro m the column jacket.
NOTE:
In som e tolera n ce stack-up cases it
m ay be n ecessary to use a p ress.
Be carefu l
not to damage the tube o r jacket.
16. R em ove the fe lt seal fro m the shift tube.
17. R em ove fir e w a ll clam p, toe pan seal and dash panel
seals fro m the jacket.
Assem bly— 1 0 -3 0 Series
NOTE:
F o r flo o r shift m odels, om it Steps 2,
3, 4, 5 and 13.
1. In stall the dash panel seal, toe panel and fir e w a ll
clam ps o v e r the end of the jacket.
2. L u b ricate a ll b earin g su rfaces on the shift tube.
3. P la c e the fe lt seal onto the shift tube (next to spring)
and then place the shift tube in the jacket.
4. 3-Speed Columns - T e m p o ra rily in stall spacer, ls t -
r e v e r s e shift le v e r and lo w e r adjusting ring. P la c e
a block of wood on top of the adjusting ring and tap
until the shift tube bottom s. R em ove adjusting ring,
shift le v e r and spacer.
NOTE:
The shift tube spring reta in er must be
bottom ed against the jacket stops.
Autom atic Columns - A lign the three holes in the s e
le c to r plate with the th ree holes in the jacket, p o s i
tion the clam ping ring and in sta ll the three screw s.
5. 3-Speed Columns - Lu bricate and in stall the spacer
and ls t - r e v e r s e shift le v e r (tang of le v e r towards
top of column).
6. In stall lo w e r bearin g in the adjusting rin g and then
in stall the adjusting rin g, clamp and screw s.
7. In stall the shift le v e r housing (o r extension housing)
seat and bushing to upper end of housing.
8. Thread d irection al signal switch w irin g harness
through the switch and shift le v e r (o r extension)
housings, lubricate the inner d iam eter o f the shift
housing, and then place the shift le v e r (o r extension)
housing onto the upper end of the column.
9. In stall the switch housing p la stic washer assem bly.
P r e s s the upper b earin g into the switch contact sup
port.
10. In stall the d irection a l signal switch housing, contact
support, bearing and switch and torque the switch
screw s to 25 in. lbs.
11. In stall the column w irin g harness co v e r and back-up
lam p switch.
12. In sta ll the d irection a l signal and gea rsh ift le v e r s .
13. Adjust the shift tube as outlined under "S h ifter Tube
A dju stm ent."
14. P M odels - L o o sely in stall the lo w e r bearing preload
spring and clamp.
C and K M odels - L o o s e ly in stall the lo w er bearing
preload spring and washer. Install the lo w er s te e r
ing shaft and coupling to the upper steerin g shaft and
torque the coupling clamp bolt to 120 in. lbs.
15. Slide the steerin g shaft assem bly up through the
column assem bly.
Install the d irection al signal
cancelling cam, steerin g shaft nut and lock washer.
Disassembly—4 0 - 5 0 -6 0 Series (Fig.
1 8 )
1. R em ove the d irection a l signal cancelling cam.
2. R em ove the upper bearin g snap ring and p ry out
bearing.
3. Slide the steerin g shaft out of the m ast jacket from
the lo w e r end, along with the low er bearin g clam p,
seal, spring, b earin g seat and fe lt washer.
4. R em ove the lo w e r b earin g fro m the m ast jacket.
5. R em ove the turn signal switch le v e r.
Rem ove the
th ree turn signal switch screw s and rem ove the turn
signal switch and support.
6. Rotate the turn signal housing cou n ter-clockw ise and
rem ove housing fro m the m ast jacket.
Assem bly— 4 0 - 5 0 -6 0 Series
1. Install the turn signal switch housing onto the upper
end of the m ast jacket.
2. In stall the turn signal switch support, switch and
le v e r.
3. P o sitio n the clam p, seal spring, bearing seat, fe lt
washer and bearin g on the low er end o f the shaft.
NOTE:
Lu bricate the seal with silicon e grease.
4. C a refu lly in s e rt the steerin g shaft into the m ast
jacket fro m the lo w e r end, install the upper bearin g
and retaining ring.
5.
Adjust the lo w e r b earin g clamp to allow .005 to .030
axial m ovem ent of the shaft and tighten the lo w er
clamp bolt to 120 in. lbs.
6. Install the turn signal cancelling cam, spring, shaft
washer and nut.
Installation

1. Adjust the m ast jacket lo w e r bearing p reload by po
sitioning spring and interm ediate coupling housing
(C -K M odels) o r clam p (P M odels) to maintain
