Before beginning acquisition, first define the required counting parameters. Choose Setup
Tests from the upper menu bar, and then select the Setup Tests option. Figure 10-21 will
appear.

Enter the length of time for each count in seconds, from 1 to 31999. The software will
automatically count the time as live time to compensate for any changes in count rate
throughout the counting sequence. Next enter the number of repetitions required. The
repetition range is 1 to 1000. Third, enter the counting interval in real time seconds, from 1
to 32000.
Note that for high count rates, the real time interval must be sufficiently long to allow for the
dead time compensation during acquisition. To check the live time and real time required,
count the highest activity expected during the time activity analysis in the MCA mode. The
live time and real time will appear in the upper right corner of the MCA screen. Use these
values to calculate a suitable real time counting interval. Divide the real time by the live time,
and use the resulting value to approximate the minimum required real time counting interval.
For example, the live time counted was 60 seconds and the real time which elapsed was 120
seconds.

This indicates that the counting interval in real time must be double (x2) the preset live time.
When all of the parameters have been correctly entered, select the
DONE button. This will
store the counting parameters in the software memory and return to the Time Activity screen.
The counting sequence information will appear in the results display area, and on any printed
