The output of the unaffected display
guidance computer may be used to
drive all three displays by placing the
SG reversion knob on the MFD con-
troller to SG 1 or SG2, as appropriate.
If the overtemperature condition
occurs on the ground, determine the
cause prior to takeoff.
Symbol Generator Failure
Indications of a failed symbol gener-
ator are a red X (see
Figure 5B-52
)
.
Select the opposite side symbol gen-
erator on the MFD controller mode
select knob to drive all displays. Ver-
ify that an amber SG1 or SG2, as
appropriate, annunciates on both
PFDs. The MFD will be normal and
both PFDs will have the same for-
mat. The MID has no complete sym-
bol generator function of its own and
its symbol generator is not select-
able. The MFD operates from the
No. 1 IC-600 DGC.
The reversion side mode select panel
will be inoperative. Flight director
modes and autopilot coupling, if
desired, must be selected from the
non-reversion side only.
Be aware that the red X symbol indi-
cates a loss of data reaching the tube
itself, and therefore, this indication
appearing may indicate a failure in
the hardware data bus to the display.
In this case, the crew will not be able
to revert tube display.
NOSE AVN FAN FAIL
Annunciator
Excessive temperature in the nose
avionics compartment illuminates
the NOSE AVN FAN FAIL annunci-
ator. Ground operation of avionics
equipment for longer than one hour
with an air temperature greater than
45°C may result in avionics com-
partment overheating. High avion-
ics compartment temperatures can
result in EFIS system failures and
damage to sensitive avionics equip-
ment. Limit ground operating time
to 30 minutes to prevent compart-
ment overheating.
If the NOSE AVN FAN FAIL annun-
ciator illuminates on the ground,
determine and correct the fault
before flight. Allow the nose com-
partment to cool before continuing
ground operation or flight.
If the annunciator illuminates in
flight, continue in a normal manner.
Determine the cause before the next
flight. Usually, the annunciator does
not illuminate unless there is an avi-
onics system failure.
