FMS Message Flag
A flashing amber MSG (8) appears
to the left of the NAV source annun-
ciator when a message is displayed
in the scratch-pad of the display unit.
The annunciation flashes until action
is taken according to the aircraft's
FMS installation.
Distance Display
The distance display (9) appears
below the NAV source annunciation
and uses the same colors as the NAV
source annunciations. The digits rep-
resent distance to the next station for
a short range NAV or to next way-
point for a long range NAV Ranges
are from 0 to 512 NM for short range
navigation equipment (DME dis-
tance source) and from 0 to 4,095
NM for long range equipment (FMS
distance source). DME HOLD is
indicated by an amber H next to the
distance when VOR is displayed.
Bearing Pointers
Two bearing pointers (10) appear on
the compass rose and indicate rela-
tive bearing to the selected naviga-
tion aid along with their symbols
(the pilot's cyan
bearing pointer
and the copilot's
white bearing
pointer) when they are selected
using the knobs on the display con-
troller. Bearing pointer source selec-
tions come from the onside display
controller. An invalid NAV source or
a tuned LOC frequency (with the
bearing pointer selected to VOR)
removes the bearing pointers from
the display.
Course/Desired Track Lateral
Deviation Scale and Bar
A course/desired track lateral devia-
tion scale (11) appears as two white
dots on either side of the aircraft
symbol. The two-dot scale repre-
sents NAV deviation from the
selected source desired track or
course. The lateral deviation dots
rotate around the center of the fixed
aircraft symbol. The deviation bar
represents the centerline of the
selected VOR or localizer course.
When Global Positioning System is
installed and the FMS is used, the
sensitivity changes for each phase of
flight
(Table 5B-H).
The color of the lateral deviation
scale changes from white to amber
for lateral excessive deviation during
CAT 2 operation.
Elapsed Time (ET), Time-To-Go
(TTG), or Groundspeed (GSPD)
Display
Pressing the GSPD/TTG button on
the display controller alternates
time-to-go to the next waypoint or
navigation aid and groundspeed dis-
plays in the lower right corner of the
EHSI display (12). Pressing FMS
calculates and displays GSPD in
magenta. When VOR/DME is
selected, the DME sends the ground-
speed and displays the value in
green. Power-up default is GSPD.
Pressing the ET button replaces the
GSPD/TTG readout with a digital
clock display. Cycling the ET button
starts, stops, and resets the digital
clock.
The ET annunciation shows elapsed
time in hours and minutes or minutes
and seconds, which is set using the
display controller.
TO/FROM Annunciator
The TO/FROM annunciator (13)
points along the selected course
depicting if the course will generally
go to or from the selected station or
waypoint. The TO indicator appears
as a solid black triangle in front of
the aircraft symbol and the FROM
indicator is a solid black triangle
behind the symbol. If VOR is
