Loss of TAS Input to FMS
Determine the failed side. Failure of
TAS input to the pilot's side generates
a TAS FAIL message from FMS as
well as blanking the displayed value of
TAS on the MFD
(Figure 5B-51).
Failure of TAS input to the copilot's
side does not result in any message
annunciation. Autopilot performance
is significantly degraded in other than
approach phases of flight when cou-
pled to the side with the failed TAS
input. Press either SG1 or SG2 on the
SG reversion knob to revert to the
cross-side symbol generator with the
operable TAS input. The autopilot
must be coupled to the side consistent
with the selected symbol generator.
Angle-of-Attack Heater
Failure
Illumination of the amber AOA HTR
FAIL annunciator and MASTER
CAUTION indicates that the angle-of-
attack vane heating element has failed.
Check the PITOT & STATIC switch
and AOA circuit breakers. If the AOA
sensor heater fails and the AOA sensor
becomes iced, the stick shaker, AOA
gauges, and low airspeed awareness
systems may not function.
Angle-of-Attack Indicator
Flagged
Indications of an angle-of-attack
system failure are an OFF flag on the
indicator, the removal of the low-
speed awareness bar, or the stick
shaker may be inoperative.
Single MADC Failure
Simultaneous appearance of red Xs
on the airspeed and altimeter display
areas indicate the failure of a micro
air data computer. Press the ADC
button on the applicable instrument
panel. Verify that an amber ADC 2
or ADC 1 (see
Figure 5B-51)
appears in the pilot's and copilot's
PFD.
Comparison Monitor Alert
Illumination of the PFD annunciator
indicates the predetermined toler-
ance level of one or more of the fol-
lowing parameters has been
exceeded (PIT, ROL, HDG, LOC,
ATT, GS, ILS, IAS, ALT, or RA).
Disengage the autopilot by pressing
the AP/TRIM DISC button. Ensure
the autopilot remains OFF.
