CAE SimuFlite
The battery relay controls the power
line between the Hot Battery bus and
the Battery bus. With the relay closed,
power can flow from the Hot Battery
bus to all buses for distribution.
With ine or more generators opera-
tional, the battery is charged by current
flow through the Main DC buses.
When the battery relay opens, the hot
battery bus is isolated from the system.
The battery relay is normally open
(i.e., powered closed). With the
switch in OFF or EMER, there is no
ground and the spring-loaded relay
remains open to disconnect the Bat-
tery bus from the Hot Battery bus.
The emergency relay is a normally
open (i.e., powered closed) relay that
controls power source to the Emer-
gency bus.
With both generators failed and the
battery switch in EMER, some of the
more important items such as annun-
ciator lights, gear indicator lights,
main pitot/static and angle-of-attack
system heat, fire warning, and the
fire bottles will be inoperative.
The EMER position of the BATT
switch will provide at least 30 min-
utes of operation for instruments and
systems powered from the emer-
gency buses.
Depending on battery switch posi-
tion, the emergency relay connects
the Emergency bus power line to
either the Battery bus or the Hot Bat-
tery bus. With the emergency relay
open, the Emergency bus connects to
the Battery bus. With the relay
closed, the Emergency bus receives
power from the Hot Battery bus.
With the switch in EMER, the
switch supplies a ground to close the
emergency relay; in this position, the
emergency relay connects the Hot
Battery bus to the Emergency bus.
With the switch in either BATT or
OFF, there is no ground and the relay
opens to connect the Emergency bus
to the Battery bus.
Voltmeter
The voltmeter
(Figure 5C-7)
,
installed on the left switch panel
next to the ammeters, indicates the
voltage supplied by the power
source to the hot Battery bus when
the battery switch is in the BATT or
EMER position. When the battery
and VOLTAGE SELECT switches
(Figure 5C-8)
are in BATT, the volt-
meter displays the highest voltage to
the Hot Battery bus (i.e., battery,
generator, or external power). Volt-
meter range is 10 to 40 volts. With
the VOLTAGE SELECT switch in
the L GEN or R GEN, the voltage
output of the respective generator is
displayed. An accurate check of one
generator is obtained only with the
opposite one off the line.
