AC System
The Citation Bravo AC electrical sys-
tem
(Figure 5C-17,
facing page) uses
two inverters to convert Direct Cur-
rent (DC) into Alternating Current
(AC) for avionics and navigation
equipment. A dual split-bus distribu-
tion system supplies inverter power
to the various systems requiring AC
power.
The inverters operate simultaneously
and independently to supply their
separate distribution systems. If an
inverter fails, the operating inverter
can meet the aircraft's AC electrical
demands; however, both inverters
must operate for takeoff.
Components
The AC system consists of:
n
Two 375 volt-amp (VA) inverters,
regulated to a maximum output of
250 VA
n
two 115V AC buses
n
Two 26V AC buses
n
System controls and indicators
switching relays
n
Protection devices.
Inverters
The inverters
(Figure 5C-18)
convert
28V DC into 115V and 26V AC at
400 Hz, single-phase, single-wave
AC power. Each unit is a transistor-
ized static inverter (i.e., no moving
parts) and receives DC power from
separate sources. The No. 1 inverter
receives power from the Left Main
Extension bus through the AC
INVERTER NO. 1 CB and the No. 2
inverter receives power from the
Right Main Extension bus through
the AC INVERTER NO. 2 CB. These
circuit breakers are rated at 10 amps.
The two inverters interconnect to
ensure phase synchronization.
Control Switches
Two AVIONICS POWER switches
on the left meter panel
(
Figure 5C-
19)
control the inverters and avion-
ics equipment. The left AC switch
(INV 1/NORM/INV 2) controls DC
power to both inverters and the right
switch (ON/OFF) is an avionics
master switch that controls DC
power to the system. The AC system
is required to function normally
prior to flight.
Test the operation of the inverters
and AC system by placing the left
AC switch in either INV 1 or INV 2.
This switch removes power from the
opposite inverter (isolates it from the
system) and connects the selected
inverter to all four AC buses. This
illuminates the corresponding
INVTR FAIL light, AC FAIL light,
and MASTER CAUTION light. The
MASTER CAUTION annunciator
extinguishes when the MASTER
