Servicing and
Procedures
Preflight Inspection
During preflight inspection, check
the following:
n
fuel gauges for service require-
ments
n
fuel leakage
n
fuel sample at each sump drain
n
fuel cap closed and locked
n
fuel tank vent unobstructed.
Servicing
An overwing port near the outboard
end of each wing provides fueling
access. Follow approved grounding
procedures for the aircraft and fuel
truck during refueling. Incorporate
an anti-icing additive with the fuel.
Fuel samples taken from sumps
shortly after fueling will not indicate
entrained water in the fuel just
added. This serration may take 30
minutes per inch of tank depth.
Prolonged aircraft storage may result
in the buildup of water that leaches
out the anti-icing additive.
Additive Procedures
Most Fixed Base Operators have
pre-mixed prist (or equivalent). If
anti-ice, anti-microorganism is not
pre-mixed, the following procedure
is optional.
Insert the fuel nozzle into the fuel
filler first and follow with the fuel
additive nozzle. Direct additive into
the flowing fuel stream. Stop addi-
tive flow before stopping the fuel
flow. Maintain additive concentra-
tion range in accordance with
instructions in the AFM.
Fueling Procedures
1. Verify that fire fighting equip-
ment is readily available.
2. 2. Determine required fuel.
3. Ground fuel supply unit, fuel
supply unit to aircraft, and fuel noz-
zle to aircraft.
4. Remove filler cap and add
required fuel.
5. Replace filler cap and remove
ground wires.
Defueling
Procedures
There are three methods for draining
fuel tanks: suction, forced-draining,
or transfer. External power is
required at some point in the process
of the last two methods to operate
the boost pump. The main difference
among the three is the connection
point for the defueling unit. The last
two methods require removal of
residual fuel through the sump
drains on the lower wing surface
near the inboard end of each wing.
Suction Method
1. Remove filler cap and insert suc-
tion line from the defueling unit into
the fuel filler.
2. Remove required amount of fuel
and then remove suction line. When
defueling flow stops, complete the
defueling operation by the forced
method; transfer fuel from one wing to
the opposite wing, or drain remaining
fuel through the poppet-type drains.
3. Replace the filler cap.
