vides heading guidance from the copi-
lot's C-14D to the autopilot through
the pilot's IC-600 computer, resulting
in the autopilot using the copilot's
flight director for its guidance.
The two position LEFT GYRO
SLAVE control switch on the bottom
left section of the pilot's switch
panel
(Figure 5B-30)
includes a
MAN/ AUTO switch on the left and
a L/R switch on the right. In the
MAN (manual) position, the C-14D
gyro operates in unslaved (gyro)
mode and the EHSI compass card
moves left or right at a rate of 30°
per minute by toggling the L (coun-
terclockwise) R (clockwise) switch.
Manual operation gives accurate
short term heading reference when
magnetic information is unreliable.
In the AUTO position, the C-14D
gyro operates in the slaved (gyro sta-
bilized magnetic) mode.
Under normal operating conditions,
leave the C-14D gyro slave switch in
the AUTO position. Fast slaving in
the AUTO mode occurs at a mini-
mum rate of 30° per minute and con-
tinues at that rate until the gyro is
slaved to the magnetic compass
heading. It then continually main-
tains a slow rate of 2.5° to 5.0° per
minute. If the gyro slave switch is in
AUTO at power-up, the system
slaves itself. If the gyro has obtained
operating speed in the MAN posi-
tion, or is otherwise unslaved while
operating, the L/R switch must be
activated to start fast slaving action
in the AUTO mode.
The RIGHT GYRO SLAVE control
switch on the copilot's instrument
panel operates in the same manner as
the pilot's switch.
Pressing the HDG REV switch
(Fig-
ure 5B-31)
allows selection of the
opposite side C-14D as an alternate
heading source and annunciates an
amber MAG 2/MAG 1 or DG 1/DG
2 in the left center of the PFD. The
annunciation of the MAG or DG is
controlled by the position of the
respective GYRO MAN/AUTO
switch. If there is no reversion selec-
tion and both systems are selected to
their own respective sources, there is
no annunciation. If there is a cross-
selection on both sides, the annunci-
ation is white.
At power-up, both systems are auto-
matically selected to its respective
MAG. Selection progression of the
push button after powerup is first
push to the opposite side, second
push to the original side, etc.
