After thread trimming (or after the treadle has been depressed backward for the 855A-A0 [ ]), you can sew a set
number of stitches to create start backtack stitches.

After thread trimming (or after the treadle has been de-
pressed backward for the 855A-A0 [ ]), make the following
settings.
1. Press the start backtack key

• The indicator

will illuminate and the start
backtacking function will turn on.
• The AB indicator

will illuminate and the number
of start backtack stitches will appear in the LED dis-
play

. (For example,
AA AA
indicates 2 stitches for
section A and 6 stitches for section B.)
2. Use the

selection keys

to change the number
of start backtack stitches.
3. Depress the treadle to start sewing the start backtack
stitches.
After this, stitches will be sewn at the pitch set by the
feed adjustment dial.
Note:
•
The sewing machine will continue operating until the
set number of start backtack stitches has been sewn,
even if the treadle is returned to the neutral position.
•
If the treadle is depressed backward, the needle will
stop in the needle up stop position at that point. (For
the 856A, the thread will be trimmed and then the
needle will stop in the needle up stop position.)
(If the zigzag stop position has been set, the needle
will stop in the set position.)
