TRANSIENT OPERATION
The AMREL Progra mmable Electronic Loa d ca n facilita te testing sources a nd load simula tion through the use of its
interna l tra nsient genera tor. This tra nsient ca pa bility a llo ws the use r to determine opera ting specifica tions for instruments
such a s a power supply. Th is ca pability a lso a llo ws for pulse -cha rging a battery and for simula ting ba ttery dra in or
simula ting a n electronic switch.
TRANSIENT MODE
Opera ting in the Tra nsient mode, the eLoa d offers 7 opera ting types: continuous, toggle, pulse, step, step a uto, step once
a nd trigge r. Ea ch tra nsient mode ha s a corresponding hot key, with the exception of the different STEP modes wh ich
instea d is se lected from the loca l menu, a nd TRIGGER, wh ich is remotely opera ted. The selected TR ANSIENT
operation is initia ted using the PULSE hot key. After the input is turned on, a nd the pulse a ctiva ted, the tra nsient
operation will be gin upon rece iving a trigger signa l or continuous mode will a ctiva te a s soon a s transient (pulse) is turned
on. If a ny of the STEP modes is a ctiva ted via the STEP hot key, then the selected STEP mode will begin once input is
on.
All Tra nsient Modes ca n be selected or a ctivated by using their designa ted Hot Keys. The Step func tion ha s a sepa rate
menu for setting the step va lue, time, a nd mode selection. The front pa nel “TRIGGER” hot key will trigge r certa in
tra nsient modes when a ppropria te.
For
Continuous
mode, once the tra nsient opera tion is a ctiva ted the eLoa d will switch between ma in level a nd tra nsient
level ba sed on the duty cycle, frequency a nd slew time.
For
Pulse
mode opera tion when amplitude a nd dura tion is progra mmed via GPIB or RS-232 bus. The trigger source
comes from GPIB or externa l TTL trigger.
For
Trigger
mode operation, the eLoad will switch to the set trigge red level once a trigge r signa l is received (trigger
signa l via GPIB, Ethernet, Externa l port, or Bus). The triggered leve l ca n be changed to a va lue grea ter or sma ller tha n
the ma in va lue setting.
For
Toggle
mode opera tion, the eLoad will toggle once between ma in level a nd tra nsient level whenever it rece ives a
trigger signa l from GPIB or externa l TTL trigger.
For
Step/Step Auto/Step Once
opera tion, the eLoa d will switch to the new va lue setting ba sed on the length a nd va lue of
the progra mmed step.
Trigger Out
signa l ca n be ca sca ded via the trigger out port to multiple loa ds or instrument a pplica tion whe re the user
requires synchronized triggered events, such a s a ctiva ting different tra nsient va lues for a group of eLoa d. The trigge r out
signa l is a ha rdwired trigger signa l with minima l dela y.
