FIVE: CALIBRATION
INSTRUCTION
Exercise caution when using and calibrating an electronic load. High energy levels can be stored a t the input
voltage terminals on an electronic load in normal operation. In addition, potentially lethal voltages exist in the
power circuit and on the input and sense connectors of a power supply with a rated output greater t han 40V.
Filter capacitors store potentially dangerous energy for some time after power is removed.
Only qualified personnel should attempt the calibration procedure, due to the high level of power.
This procedure describes ca libra tion for the AMREL Progra mmable DC Electronic Loa d. The loa d is ca libra ted either
through loca l or remote control. The following informa tion provides ca libra tion procedures in loca l mode.
NO ha rdwa re adjustment is necessa ry since a ll ca libra tion is a ccomplished by softwa re. The softwa re sends ca libra tion
constants to the via the front panel keys. To maintain electronic load’s precision input, calibration should be performed at
lea st a nnua lly.
The nineteen pa rameters tha t need to be ca libra ted. After a ll the e lectronic loa d pa ra meters a re ca libra ted, the loa d returns
to norma l opera ting condition. If there a re a ny errors in the ca libra tion, cycle the power a nd reca libra te. All constants a re
sa ved in a non-vola tile EEPROM.
CALIBRATION SERVICE ENVIRONMENT AND PRECAUTIONS

Follow esta blished a ntista tic procedures.

Work a t a bench with a dequa te room a nd support for the test unit a nd for a ll equipment required.
•
To reduce shock ha za rd, use only a n insula ted, stra ight-bla ded screwdriver when ca libra ting.
NEVER ca libra te these units a lone. Ensure tha t someone is present who ca n help should a n a ccident occur.
CALIBRATION REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

DMM
•
Current Shunt (Precision Shunt Resistor-0.01ohm, 0.005% a ccura cy)
•
DC power supplies (suita ble for CV a nd CC ma ximum ra ting)
NOTE: Removing any devices or cabling from the overall Calibration Configuration will cause erroneous results, please
keep all equipment, device and cabling intact until process is complete.
