Abbreviations
Ev ery command and c haracter parameter has at least t w o forms, a
short form and a long form. In some cases they will b e the same.
The short form is obtained using the following rules.
If the long form has four c haracters or less, the long form and short
form are the same.
If the long form has more than 4 c haracters,
If the 4th c haracter is a v o w el, the short form is the rst 3
c haracters of the long form.
If the 4th c haracter is not a v o w el, the short form is the rst 4
c haracters.
F or example:
BIAS abbreviates to BIAS .
TRIGger abbreviates to TRIG .
LEVel abbreviates to LEV .
FREQuency abbreviates to FREQ .
If the long form mnemonic is dened as a phrase rather than a
single w ord, then the long form mnemonic is the rst c haracter of
the rst w ord(s) follow ed b y the en tire last w ord. The ab o v e rules,
when the long form mnemonic is a single w ord, are then applied to
the resulting long form mnemonic to obtain the short form.
F or example:
P ercen t TOLerance abbreviates to PTOL . (The long form is
PTOLERANCE .)
Note
The 4284A accepts the three forms of the same SCPI commands: all
upp er case, all low er case, and mixed upp er and low er case.
