The braking of the twines
The meaning of the binding parameters is
indicated on the Par. 4.7.
The values of the edge distance and pitch coils
are orientative because irregularities of the
material and of the bale rotation speed can
significantly change these values.
The distance from the edge of the bale can be
changed by moving the switch installed in the
twine binding (fig. 30, A). The more externally they
are set, less will be the distance between the
margin of the binding and the edge of the bale.
The pitch of the coils can be changed by changing
the throat of the driving pulley (B, fig. 30) on which
the wire is wound: the lower is the diameter on
which the twine is wound the, the lower the pitch
of the coils binding.
The braking force of the twines can be adjusted
acting on the screws indicated with the letter “C”
on the Fig. 30. Every twine has its own adjustment
screw.
A too low braking force may cause an irregular
binding with a not constant pitch of the turns and
distance from the edge.
An excessive braking force can cause a sliding
between the twine and the dragging rollers.

The twine binding process always starts with the
trolleys in a central position and with the twines
placed at the center of the bale.
Once the binding starts, the trolleys capture the
twine and move to the outside of the bale making
the spiral binding, up to reach and exceed the
limit switches which regulate the distance of the
twines from the edge of the bale.
At this point the trolleys stop in the outboard
position to make a few revolutions of the heads
after that they return towards the center of the
bale to reach the knives which cut the twine.
In case the binding twine fails, it is necessary to:

Stop immediately the P.T.O.

Check if the path of the twines is correct.

Check that there are no knots or tangles of
twine in the coils.

Check that the twine slides smoothly along
its path.

Check the power set on the twine brake.

Check the position of the trolleys and
eventually take them in a central position by
rotating the driving pulley.

Check that the trolleys has caught the twine.

Check the sharpness of the twine cutting
knives.
