Chapter 1. Problem Determination

Both hardware and software (operational code and configuration) problems can
affect the IBM 2212 Access Utility.

Generally, errors that occur

before the operational code is loaded are

hardware-related. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on the front and back of the IBM
2212 indicate how the hardware components are functioning. Errors that occur
after the operational code is loaded indicate problems with the operational code or
configuration file. Various diagnostics programs, error logs and procedures in
Appendix E, “Common Tasks” on page E-1 exist to help with code problem
determination.

This manual is chiefly concerned with

diagnosing and correcting problems

associated with hardware.

Where to Begin

First, familiarize yourself with the LEDs as described in the following sections. Then
go to “MAP 0100: Basic Verification” on page 1-9 to begin the troubleshooting
process.


