Exchanging a Blower in Models 4xx

1. Remove power from the IBM 2212 by unplugging the power cord.

2. Remove the IBM 2212 cover, using the instructions in “Removing the Cover” on

page 2-4.

3. Disconnect the cable connecting the blower to the backplane.

4. Remove from the top of the blower the two screws attaching the blower to the

chassis. Depending on the blower model, the blower may have a wired

connector on one screw. Remove the screw and washer from the connector.

Lift out the screws and washers, and set aside.

5. Lift out the blower.

6. Place the new blower in the IBM 2212 chassis.

7. Attach the new blower to the chassis using the two screws and washers. If the

blower has a connector, attach the connector to the screw before attaching the

blower.

8. Connect the blower cable to the backplane.

9. Reinstall the cover of the IBM 2212 using the instructions in “Reinstalling the

Cover” on page 2-5.

10. Power on the IBM 2212 by plugging in the power cord.

11. Verify the blower is operating. You should feel the air from the blower coming

out of the vent located on the back of the IBM 2212.

12. Verify the LEDs. See “LED Indicators” on page 1-2.

13. Notify the network administrator that you are finished repairing the IBM 2212.
