Disconnecting the Power Cord
Attention:
Disconnecting the power cord will shut down the IBM 2212 and disrupt users in
your network. Consult the network administrator before disconnecting the power
cord.
Disconnect the power cord from the ac power outlet and then from the IBM 2212.
Reconnecting the Power Cord
Connect the power cord to the IBM 2212 and then to the ac power outlet.
Handling Static-Sensitive Devices
Certain components, such as the system board, adapters, and memory modules,
can be damaged by static electricity discharge. These components are shipped in
an antistatic bag to prevent such damage. And electrostatic discharge (ESD)
protection device must be used when handling these components.
Take the following precautions:

Do not remove the component from the antistatic bag until you are ready to
replace a component in the IBM 2212.
¹
With the component still in its antistatic bag, touch the metal frame of the
machine.
¹
Hold the component by its edges. Avoid touching solder joints or pins.
¹
Handle the components carefully in order to prevent permanent damage.
Part Exchange Directory
Important
The parts for the IBM 2212 are not hot pluggable. You must remove power
from the IBM 2212 when replacing any FRU.
Each time you change a part, carefully record its location and check that the
attached cables are correctly labeled and reconnected.
In Table 2-1, find the part you want to exchange and go to the procedure indicated.
