Removing and Returning a Model 4xx Chassis with and without a Hard
Drive
1. Remove power from the IBM 2212 by unplugging the power cord.
2. Remove the IBM 2212 cover, using the instructions in “Removing the Cover” on
page 2-4.
3. Remove and keep:

The CPCI adapter using the instructions in “Exchanging a CPCI Adapter”
on page 2-10.

The hard drive, if one is installed. To do so:
a. Reposition the chassis so that the back of the chassis rests on the
countertop. The front of the chassis should be facing the ceiling. With
one hand supporting the hard drive, remove from the bottom of the
chassis the four screws attaching the hard drive to the chassis.
b. Lift out the hard drive.

The system card and its components using the instructions in either
“Exchanging a Standard System Card” on page 2-12 or “Exchanging a
High-Performance System Card” on page 2-14.

If the blower has a wired connector, connected to one of the two screws

that attach the blower to the chassis, remove and keep the blower using
|
the instructions in “Exchanging a Blower in Models 4xx” on page 2-6.
4. Reinstall the cover on the chassis using the instructions in “Reinstalling the
Cover” on page 2-5.
5. Record and keep the serial number from the chassis. When you receive a new
chassis you will need to reference this serial number.
6. Return the chassis as indicated in the warranty and maintenance agreement for
your country.
Installing a Model 1xx Chassis without a Hard Drive
1. Remove power from the IBM 2212 by unplugging the power cord.
2. Remove the IBM 2212 cover, using the instructions in “Removing the Cover” on
page 2-4.
3. Connect the dc power cable to the backplane at the 6-pin connection.
Connect the blower and fan connector cables to the backplane at either
2-pin connection. (See Figure 2-13 on page 2-26.)
4. Reinstall the cover on the new chassis using the instructions in “Reinstalling the
Cover” on page 2-5.
5. Install the system card and adapters.
6. Attach an ASCII terminal to the IBM 2212 as described in Chapter 3,
“Accessing the IBM 2212” on page 3-1.
7. Power on the IBM 2212 by plugging in the power cord.
8. Access the
SVC>
prompt. See “Accessing the Service Recovery Prompt (SVC>)”
on page E-4.
