8.1 Service and Maintenance Cautions
CAUTION:
Do not perform any service or maintenance
yourself, except as explained in this user guide.
Tasks not covered in this user guide should
only be done by a qualified Advanced
Instruments service technician.
If the product requires service for any of the following
reasons, unplug the product from the electrical outlet
and refer service to a qualified Advanced Instruments
service technician.
•
Damage to the power cord, extension cord, power
strip, or power input module.
•
Liquid has spilled into the interior of the product.
•
A foreign object has fallen into the product.
•
The product has been dropped or damaged by a
falling object.
•
There are noticeable signs of overheating or a burning
odor.
•
The product does not operate normally when you
follow the operating procedures.
•
The main supply fuse(s) or any internal fuse(s)
continually fail

Have the instrument and serial number available when
you speak to a technician (see
). If you
need to send your Instrument for servicing, a Technical
Service representative will provide you with an RMA
number. Units are not accepted for service without an
RMA number.
8.2 ESD Precautions
A discharge of static electricity from contact with the
human body or other conductor can damage system
boards or static-sensitive devices. Never perform internal
maintenance without following recommended
electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection procedures.
8.3 Shutting Down the Instrument for
Shipping or Long-term Storage
To shut down an instrument to ship it for repair or
replacement, or to store it long-term, follow the steps below:
1.
If returning an instrument, notify Advanced
Instruments Technical Service to obtain a Returned
Material Authorization (RMA).
2.
Disconnect the system fluid bottle from the cap on
the tube assembly.
3.
Remove and dispose of the bottle and system fluid.
4.
Repeat the following steps three times to run the
fluidics priming cycles and remove any residual fluid
from the system.
a.
Select
>Diagnostics>Cleaning.
b.
Press the
Prime Pipettor
tab.
c.
Press
Prime
and allow the system fluid to be
expelled from the pipettor.
5.
Remove all sample tubes and adapters from the turntable.
6.
Open the peristaltic pump doors.
7.
If shipping the instrument:
a.
Remove the waste bottle.
b.
Install the shipping stops.
c.
Remove the turntable.
d.
Disinfect the exterior of the instrument.
