Operators can perform tests and calibrate the instrument
without triggering any quality control actions based on
the quality control settings (see
).
Testing Instrument Performance with Protinol and Renol
If you use your osmometer to test biological solutions,
you should also test the osmometer performance using
actual biological solutions or controls formulated to
simulate biological solutions.
NOTE:
Keep controls covered if possible prior to
loading. Remove caps immediately prior to
testing to minimize evaporation and
contamination.
Preparing the Controls
1.
Allow one vial of each level of Protinol
™
Protein-Based
Controls and Renol
™
Urine Osmolality Controls to
come to room temperature:
–
Protinol 240 mOsm/kg H2O
–
Protinol 280 mOsm/kg H2O,
–
Protinol
320 mOsm/kg H2O,
–
Renol 300 mOsm/kg H2O
–
Renol 800 mOsm/kg H2O
3.
Prior to each use, mix the contents of the vials by
gently swirling.
Do not shake the controls or allow them to foam.
4.
Carefully remove the foil seal and rubber stopper
from each vial.
5.
Place the adapter for each control in adjacent
positions on a clear turntable.
6.
Place the controls in the proper adapter.
7.
Press
.
8.
Once the test is complete, the results are displayed
with the automated test results.
All tests passed
Some tests failed
9.
When done using the controls, remove them from the
adapter, replace the rubber stopper, and store the
vials at 2-8 ⁰C (36-46 ⁰F).
NOTE:
Cover controls as soon as possible after testing is
complete to minimize evaporation and contamination.
