Set the correct distance adjust (step)
Obtaining constant printing quality on a Zephyr TS is not only determined by the working
environment, the RIP, the profiles, the inks or the media you are using. One of the key factors
to obtain constant quality is the correct distance adjust for every media, also called “Step”.
Every image is printed in several print passes. After every pass, the media is fed an amount of
millimetres. When the step is not set correctly, the passes will overlap each other (In the
slower print modes the overlap will result in a noisy output) or will not be printed precisely next
to each other, which results in white bands or darker overlapping zones between two print
passes.
To control this feed distance, a test pattern called “Distance adjust” is available in the User
Interface.
Be sure to read and understand the safety warnings before handling the printer.
Underfeed
= Overlap.
Step between the print passes is too small.
This results in overlapping print passes.
Which means you have to increase the step
value.
Overfeed
= Gap. Step between the print
passes is too large. This results in print
passes lying too far from each other.
Which means you have to decrease the step
value.
Note
It is recommended to start printing with a step of 0.00% and to adjust it
afterwards. Once a step is set for a particular media, it will not change on
following conditions:
The step is only applicable on the printer in question and not interchangeable with
other printers.
The media manufacturer does not change any specifications (especially backing)
of the media.
The heater settings are not changed.
The vacuum settings are not changed.
The pressure roller settings are not changed.
