De-Esser
Surface Controls (DeEsser & AutoMix)
VisTool
In the standard configuration, a de-esser is available for all MIC sources and can be used to reduce excessive
sibilance when dealing with human speech.
The following parameters are available for the de-esser:
·
DYN
- on/off for
all
dynamics sections: compressor, expander, gate and de-esser/automix.
·
DeEss
- on/off for the de-esser.
·
Reduction
– this is the amount of gain reduction applied to the sibilant frequencies:
o
Values from 1 to 6 reduce the gain of the unwanted sibilant frequenices; the higher the value, the
more gain reduction.
o
Above 6, the gain reduction remains at its maximum, and the affected frequency range broadens.
·
female/male
– select
female
or
male
to change the center frequencies affected by the de-esser; these
are optimised for either male or female voices.
Both
DYN
and
DeEss
must
be enabled (red) for the de-esser to be active. This is best checked by looking
at VisTool (where you can see the
DYN
button plus on/off for the individual sections: COMP, EXP, GATE,
etc.)
