10. Audio Mix Engine
De-esser
The de-esser can be used to reduce excess sibilant consonants such as “s”, “z” and “sh” when dealing with
human speech.
The following parameters are available:
·
DYN
- on/off for
all
dynamics sections: compressor, expander, gate and de-esser/automix.
·
DeEss
- on/off for the de-esser.
·
Reduction
– this is the amount of gain reduction applied to the sibilant frequencies:
o
Values from 1 to 6 reduce the gain of the unwanted sibilant frequenices; the higher the value, the
more gain reduction.
o
Above 6, the gain reduction remains at its maximum, and the affected frequency range broadens.
·
female/male
– select
female
or
male
to change the center frequencies affected by the de-esser; these
are optimised for either male or female voices.
AutoMix
AutoMix groups provide automatic level adjustment for any collection of mono and stereo sources. The feature
is ideal for balancing active and inactive microphones such as in a panel discussion, or creating an automated
voice-over.
For
sapphire
and
Power Core
, up to 4 independent AutoMix groups may be created.
crystal
and
sapphire
compact
support a single AutoMix group.
The following parameters are available:
·
AMix
- on/off for AutoMix. This adds the source to the AutoMix group.
·
Weight
- adjusts the weighting factor of each source from +9 to -9 with a default mid point = 0.
Sources with a higher weight value get priority in the mix; those with the same weight are mixed equally;
and those with a lower value get reduced priority.
·
Speed
– the speed adjusts how quickly a signal returns to its normal mix level after its gain has been
suppressed. It is set in milliseconds (ms).
10.3.4
Limiter
The limiter DSP module is separate from the dynamics module and can be configured for sources and
summing buses.
The following parameters are available:
·
LIM
- on/off for the limiter: red = on.
·
THRS
- threshold from -93dB to +27dB.
·
RLS -
release time from 10ms to 5000ms.
10.3.5
EQ
The EQ module can be configured for sources and summing buses. The module includes a 3-band parametric
equaliser, plus high and low pass filters.
