6.13. Exchange of liquids procedure
This section explains how liquids and or liquid containers used within the Autosampler III can be exchanged.
The Autosampler III has a dedicated pump bay from
which all fluids used in the Autosampler III originate.
The fluid bay houses the pumps, fluid containers and
the cooling block. From the fluid bay the liquids are
distributed within the Autosampler III. The fluid bay has a
raised edge to prevent any accidental spilling from falling
on the floor. The bottom of the bay has a drain plug that
can be connected to the waste connection. The layout of
the fluid bay can be seen in the figure to the right.
6.13.1. Pumps
The Autosampler III is equipped with various pumps to perform the liquid handling steps within the
Autosampler III. This section explains which pumps are used and how to identify them. This is important to
connect the correct chemical container to a pump.
6.13.1.1. Pipetting pumps
The Autosampler III contains four pipetting pumps; these pipetting pumps are connected to the needles and
to the microwash container for pipetting. From left to right, the pumps are defined as pump 1 to pump 4,
which correspond to needles 1 to 4. The needle designation is from back to front 1 to 4.
Be careful! Some chemicals may be hazardous; therefore, always
adhere to lab regulations and wear the correct PPE such as a lab
coat, gloves and safety glasses.
