Functions that Y.1731 supports
Function
Function Description
Principles
Single-ended
Frame LM
Collects frame loss statistics
to assess the quality of links
between maintenance
association end points
(MEPs), independent of
continuity check (CC).
To collect frame loss statistics, select either
single- or dual-ended frame loss
measurement:
l
Dual-ended frame loss measurement
provides more accurate results than the
single-ended method. The interval
between dual-ended frame loss
measurements varies with the interval
between CCM transmissions. The CCM
transmission interval is shorter than the
interval between single-ended frame loss
measurements. The dual-ended method
allows for a short interval between dual-
ended frame loss measurements.
l
Single-ended frame loss measurement
can be used to minimize the impact of
many CCMs on the network.
Dual-ended
Frame LM
Collects frame loss statistics
to assess link quality on
CFM CC-enabled devices.
One-way
Frame DM
Measures the network delay
time on a unidirectional link
between MEPs.
To measure the link delay time, select either
one- or two-way frame delay measurement:
l
One-way frame delay measurement can
be used to measure the delay time on a
unidirectional link between a MEP and
its remote MEP (RMEP). The MEP must
synchronize its time with its RMEP.
l
Two-way frame delay measurement can
be used to measure the delay time on a
bidirectional link between a MEP and its
RMEP. The MEP does not need to
synchronize its time with its RMEP.
Two-way
Frame DM
Measures the network delay
time on a bidirectional link
between MEPs.
AIS
Detects server-layer faults
and suppresses alarms,
minimizing the impact on
network management
systems (NMSs).
AIS is used to suppresses local alarms in the
scenario where faults must be rapidly
detected.
Multicast
Loopback
Identifies faults and
discovers RMEPs.
l
Multicast loopback is used to detect
faults in links between MEPs in the
scenario where multiple MEPs are used.
l
Multicast loopback is used to discover
RMEPs if RMEP IDs and MAC
addresses cannot be obtained.
