The general characteristics of the dial T7 path are as follows:
• The remote ISX 5312/5314 can automatically dial the CMS 400 if the remote unit
has a Dial Condition Event to report and a modem connection has not been
established. A Dial Condition Event is defined as a Red, Blue, or Yellow alarm
generated on a T-1 line that causes the remote unit to dial the CMS 400. These
alarms can be individually enabled or disabled from the ISX 5312/5314’s front
panel. The CMS 400 can dial the remote ISX 5312/5314 if the user requests
statistics or wants to download parameters and a modem connection has not been
established.
• The remote ISX 5312/5314 hangs up when it receives a hang-up command from
the CMS 400. If the CMS 400 initiated the modem link, the ISX 5312/5314 can
also hang up after a user-selectable number of minutes of inactivity. If the
ISX 5312/5314 initiated the link, it can hang up after a user-selectable number of
seconds of inactivity.
• Whenever a modem link is established, the ISX 5312/5314 sends its serial number
in the form of a Mayday before it sends any other messages. This communication
is defined as the ID Notification.
• If the ISX 5312/5314 hangs up for any reason, the first message it sends over the
T-1 line is an ID Notification, telling the CMS 400 to switch communication back
to the T-1 line for that unit.
When an ISX 5312/5314 is configured as a central unit, the modem link is the only path
available for command data. Therefore, the ISX 5312/5314 dials the modem whenever
there is data waiting to go out of the NMI port. After dialing, the modem link has all the
characteristics of a direct cable link between the CMS 400 and the ISX 5312/5314 until
the modem is hung up.
When an ISX 5312/5314 configured as a remote unit receives a command, it sends the
response back on the same T7 path that the command came in on. All commands are
processed regardless of the path they came in on.
