Introduction

To simplify network management, Milgo offers Excalibur ISX 5312/5314 management
for Windows and UNIX.  This SNMP-based application provides an intuitive graphical
interface tailored specifically for Excalibur ISX products.  You can use this application
to fully configure the ISX 5312/5314, monitor its performance, display statistics, and
conduct tests, without having to send individual Set and Get commands.  This
application can run under Milgo’s CMS 400 management platform, as well as under HP
OpenView

  

for Windows and UNIX, and Tivoli TME 10 NetView for AIX.

The SNMP is formally specified in a series of related RFC documents.  The Excalibur
ISX 5312/5314 complies with the following RFCs:

• RFC 1155 - Structure and Identification of Management Information for TCP/IP-

based internets: SMI.

• RFC 1156 - Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-

based internets: MIB-1.

• RFC 1157 - A Simple Network Management Protocol.

• RFC 1212 - Concise MIB Definitions.

• RFC 1213 - Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-

based internets: MIB-II.

• RFC 1406 - DS1 and E1 Interface Types.

• RFC 1215 - A Convention for Defining Traps for Use with the SNMP.

• RFC 1659 - Definitions of Managed Objects for RS-232-Like Hardware Devices.

For your convenience, the Excalibur ISX 5300 MIB, which supports the ISX 5312/5314,
is published on the Internet.  You can download the .ASN file from the Milgo Home
Page located at http://www.milgo.com/rdg/customer/support/mibs/mibarch.htm.

Telnet Client Support

The ISX 5312/5314 provides Telnet client support.  Network management via Telnet can
be performed from any workstation in the network that has TCP/IP and a Telnet
application.  By entering a valid logon sequence, you can perform operating procedures
as if you were sitting at the ISX 5312/5314’s front panel.  This feature allows service
personnel to access a specific ISX 5312/5314 for configuration or diagnostic purposes,
using commonly available software running on a minimal platform.
