ESF Diagnostic Monitoring
The ESF Diagnostic Monitoring feature allows you to monitor the T-1 circuit's
performance from the front panel or from a T7 or SNMP manager’s console (if the
network is so equipped) without interrupting normal operations. The ISX 5312/5314
supports the ESF Facility Data Link (FDL) for real time error monitoring of the T-1
facility. The ISX 5312/5314 provides separate 24-hour local, Telco, and network
registers, which provide the error statistics for the current 15-minute interval and for the
last 24 hours. Error statistics displayed include:
• Percentage of line availability
• ES - Errored Seconds
• CSS - Controlled Slip Seconds
• LOFC - Loss of Frame Count
• CRC-6 - CRC-6 errors
• BPV - Bipolar Violations
• FBE - Frame Bit Error
• COFA - Change of Frame Alignment
• SES - Severely Errored Seconds
• BES - Bursty Errored Seconds
Built-In Diagnostic Tests
The Excalibur ISX 5312/5314 contains diagnostic tests that help you quickly isolate the
source of network malfunctions. From the front panel, you can initiate DTE loopback
and bidirectional local channel and local line loopback tests. You can loop single,
contiguous, or all channels on a T-1 line. You can also loop all the channels assigned to
two T-1 lines in a connection. The ISX 5312/5314 also provides a built-in QRSS test
pattern generator, which eliminates the need for separate BERT test equipment.
Downloadable Software
The ISX 5312/5314 provides a download kernel that allows you to quickly and easily
download software from your PC console via a direct connection or a modem
attachment. You can also use a CMS T7 network manager to download software across
the network to remotely located ISX 5312/5314 units.
