Using Console Port Interface
The Console Port Interface feature provides direct attachment or dial-in access to a
VT100-compatible ASCII terminal. (See “Connecting to NMI Port for Front Panel
Controller or Console Port Applications” in Chapter 2 for cable connection instructions.)
The console port interface operates like a Telnet session in the respect that an ASCII
representation of the front panel is sent to the terminal screen.
For security purposes, access to the console port interface is protected by the same user
identifier and password required to access Telnet. A console session is established only
if the logon entries match the user identifier and password stored in the non-volatile
database of the ISX 5312/5314.
Note: The NMI port configuration parameters (protocol and speed) should not be
changed using this application. If you change these parameters, communication with the
unit is lost.
Enabling Console Port Interface
To enable the console port interface, do one of the following:

If you have a standalone model ISX 5312/5314 or a central site model ISX 5314
housed in an Excalibur Card Carrier, set the Protocol parameter to Console. See
“Network Management System” in Chapter 4 for instructions.

If you have a central site model ISX 5314 housed in an ISX 5010 chassis, set the
NMI port mode to Console Port using the switches on the front of the central site
model p.c. card. See “Setting Switches” in Chapter 2 for instructions.
Autobaud
The Autobaud feature allows the ISX 5312/5314 to automatically determine the terminal
baud rate and set the serial port to operate at the same rate. Autobaud appears as an
option for the Speed parameter (in the NMS Configuration submenu) only when the
Protocol parameter is set to Console.
