Chapter 2
Installation
Overview
The following steps must be completed to install the Excalibur ISX 5312/5314:
1. For the standalone model, place the unit in a suitable location. For the central
site model, install the unit in the Excalibur Card Carrier or in the ISX 5010
chassis.
2. If necessary, set the jumper blocks on the central site unit’s transition board.
These jumper blocks specify whether the DTE ports present an interface similar
to an ISX 5010 access multiplexer or a standalone ISX 5312/5314 (default
setting).
3. If necessary, set the switches on the front of the central site unit’s p.c. card.
These switches specify the NMI port operating mode (Console Port or Network
Management) and chassis type (ISX 5010 or Excalibur Card Carrier). The
default settings specify that the central site model operates in Network
Management mode and is housed in an Excalibur Card Carrier.
4. Connect the unit to the DTEs, the T-1 line(s), and accessory equipment.
5. Connect the power supply to the standalone ISX 5312/5314 and the AC power
outlet.
This chapter explains how to perform each of these procedures. It also contains pin and
signal assignments for each of the ISX 5312/5314’s connectors and descriptions of the
cables used with each connector.
Note
: The “Unit Placement” and “AC Power Connection” sections pertain to the
standalone model only. For instructions about installing and applying power to the
central site model, refer to the
Excalibur Card Carrier Installation and Operation
Manual
or the
ISX 5010 Installation and Operation Manual.
