Defining Operating Parameters
4-13
When the APC feature is enabled, channel mapping on DS1a is duplicated on DS1b.
DS1a (the primary line) and DS1b (the protection line) transmit the same information.
Both the primary and protection lines are monitored and the required statistics are
accumulated. The ISX 5312/5314 also allows you to initiate a switch to the protection
line on loss of signal (LOS). This option is an extension of Technical Reference
54017A1.
A transfer switch transfers service from the primary line to the protection line in the
event of a failure on the primary line, or from the protection line to the primary line
when the primary line is in a good state and the Revertive Mode parameter is enabled.
The criteria required for a transfer switch are defined in Technical Reference 54017A1.
These values can be set by the Telco via a TABS maintenance message. You cannot
change these values. You can view the current threshold value for Errored Seconds
(ES), Severely Errored Seconds (SES), and the line availability timer by pressing the
button under
Thrsh
in the APC Status submenu.
Before you can enable the APC feature, the ISX 5312/5314 must be configured as
follows:
• Make sure you are receiving the proper service from the Network Interface (NI).
• The Frame parameter must be set to ESF on both DS1a and DS1b.
• DS1a is the primary line and DS1b is the protection line. Therefore, there must be
no connections on DS1b.
• The Hot Spare feature must be disabled.
To enable the APC feature, follow these steps, starting from the Configure DSU
submenu:
