6.0 Process Overview
The Corning® Ascent™ System processes are grouped into three categories: (1) System set up which includes Media Fill/Prime, Media
Conditioning, and Sensor Calibration; (2) Cell Culture; and (3) Harvest. This section details the Sequence Phases and Auxiliary Phases in
each category (Figure 6-1).

Ascent FBR process sequence. The Ascent FBR
is a flexible system capable of customization to
fit the user’s needs.
There are two types of phases: Sequence Phase (Media and Harvest) and Auxiliary Phase. Some phases can only run once while other
phases can run multiple times. Media Phases can run after a Harvest Preparation Phase but not during an active Harvest Phase. Auxiliary
Phases can be initiated during an active Media Phase or an active Auxiliary phase and will put the active phase on hold (see section 6.3).
Table 6-1 lists the phases run frequency and the conditions that apply. For a list of Phase Permissives or conditions required to operate
each phase, see Appendix 2. For a detailed description of each phase, see Appendix 3.
NOTE:
After Shutdown Phase is completed, all phases may run again.
