Understanding MPLS VC Merge
Displaying Card Support for VC Merge
When adding y-redundancy (card redundancy) where one card supports VC Merge and the other card
does not, a feature mismatch is declared with the following message displayed while executing the
addyred
command:
card pair is incompatible due to VC Merge support.
If VC Merge is enabled on a card and that card is replaced with a card that does not support VC Merge,
the
dspcd
screen shows the following message:
Front card must support VC Merge
When you enter the
dspcds
command, the status of the card displays mismatch.

To display card support for VC Merge, use the following procedure.
Step 1
Enter the
dspcd
command to view a detailed card summary as follows:

Step 2
Enter the applicable slot number for the enhanced BXM-E cards.
V
indicates that VC Merge is supported.

Enabling VC Merge
To enable VC Merge, use the following procedure.

Before you enable VC Merge, use the
cnfrsrc
command to ensure that the minimum number of
channels is 1023 for the minvsilcns and maxvsilcns parameters. For more information about the
