Inspecting fiber

Select the
MicroScope
icon.
The Fiber Microscope screen appears.

Connect the microscope to the optical patch cord or bulkhead.
The video of the fiber appears.

Specify which
Tip
is being used on the microscope.

Adjust the focus as needed using the wheel on the microscope. The color of the
vertical bar on the left indicates the quality of the focus: green is good, yellow is
ok, red is poor. Older microscopes have a blue bar only.
Optional.
To verify which version you have, use the Viavi
FiberChek Pro
desktop
application.

Select the inspection
Profile
.
If you have a custom profile, do one of the following:
–
Use the file manager to put the file into the disk/bert/scope/profiles/ folder,
and it will appear in the P5000i viewer the next time it is launched (if it is
already running, it will need to be closed and reopened).
–
Click the
Import from USB
button next to the profile list to import your
custom profile. Once imported it may be selected in the viewer.

Select
Other settings
and then check the
Auto-center
check box. If checked, the
live picture automatically centers on the fiber center. If not checked, the picture
will center at the last location of a fiber center following an analysis. High magnifi-
cation is always automatically centered.

To manually inspect the fiber, do the following:
a
Observe the video of the fiber, and if desired, magnify the image by selecting
the
Zoom In
button.

Select
Other settings
and then specify
Freezes
as the
Test Button
setting.
This captures a snapshot.
c
Select the
Test
button.
d
To compare the current capture to the live feed, select
Overlay
e
To return to the live video, select the
Live
button.

To test the fiber, do the following:
a
Select
Other settings
and then specify
Tests
as the
Test Button
setting.
b
Select the
Test
button.
NOTE:
Although some microscopes can inspect multi-fiber or ribbon fiber (depending
on the microscope and the tip used) the T-BERD
⁄
MTS 5800’s microscope
application supports simplex fiber only.
NOTE:
The test will fail if the focus quality is poor (vertical bar is red).
