Advanced Timeline Editing Options
The VTP Editor provides two advanced timeline editing techniques for video and audio tracks: three-point and four-
point edits.
A
three-point edit is used to define how new source frames (video or audio) are placed on the VTP timeline. Three
edit points of the source content (clip) and timeline are user defined In points and Out points using Mark In and
Mark Out on both the timeline and the source asset (clip) being added. The VTP Editor automatically calculates
the fourth point by using the duration of the In and Out points applied to the third point. To select the three edit
points, you mark either two In points and one Out point, or two Out points and one In point. Only one edit point (In
point or Out point on either the source clip or timeline) may be left unmarked and the total number of defined edit
points must equal three.
For example:
1. Timeline In point, the point on the timeline where the end of the last frame of the incoming source asset
(clip) will begin, is set to 00:00:10:00
2. Source clip In point is set ( Mark In ) to 00:00:00:00
3. Source clip Out point is set ( Mark Out ) to 00:00:05:23.
4. The VTP Editor applies the 6-second duration between the source In and Out points to the timeline Out
point and automatically sets the program Out point to 00:00:15:23.
A four-point edit is used when the In point and Out point of the source clip and the In point and Out point of the
timeline is set or marked before the edit is applied. If the marked source clip and timeline duration are different, the
system will present the available corrective actions to resolve the conflict.
Perform a three-point edit
1.
Define the timeline In and/or Out points using the Mark In and Mark Out commands.
2.
Define the new edit timeline by selecting the Add Asset option from the Asset menu.
a. A file browser window will open to allow the source asset file for the edit to be selected.
b. Position the timeline cursor at the desired In and/or Out points and click Place to overlay the edit
on the timeline.
