CINEGUI Interface
There are two graphical user interfaces for the QuVIS Acuity. The standard GUI is designed for VTR-like
operations, while the CineGUI is used for QScript-based playback.
There are application-specific differences between the two interfaces. The most important difference is that
CineGUI does not allow any changes to be made to the program content stored on the Acuity. CineGUI can only be
used to play scripted (QScript) programs such as a digital film; it cannot record over, erase, delete, or in any way
change the stored material.
CineGUI is used both at the theater where films are shown and at a production facility where digital films are
transferred and playback scripts are created. The role of the QuVIS Acuity and its feature set is focused more on
the production of content (including encryption) for distribution. While a QuVIS Acuity may be used in a digital
cinema playback environment QuVIS has playback-only video servers, the QuVIS Cinema Player and QuVIS
Ovation, that are specifically designed to service these types of applications.
With CineGUI, you can generate uninterrupted show scripts from multiple reels using a powerful text-based
scripting language (QScript). It also features ten GPI trigger outputs that can be used to trigger theatre lighting,
curtains, etc., in an automated theatre.
The QuVIS Acuity ships with the standard GUI activated. CineGUI may be loaded as the primary interface upon
bootup by modifying the Environment Variable
general,defaultGUI
in the active
Default Startup Config File
file. In a
production environment where the standard GUI is used, the CineGUI interface may also be loaded from the
standard GUI by clicking on the
Jump to CineGUI
button on the
SETUP CONFIG (1/8) menu page
. This action will
close the standard GUI and load the CineGUI interface. Additionally, if CineGUI was opened from the standard GUI,
it will include an
Exit
button for reloading the standard GUI without rebooting and modifying the
general,defaultGUI
Environment Variable.
Note:
When returning to the standard GUI from CineGUI, the default startup config file will be loaded as it was last
saved. Any configuration settings that were modified but not saved prior to opening CineGUI will be lost.
IMPORTANT!
The ability to play scripts and Digital Cinema Show Playlists (including Composition Playlists) has
been added to the Acuity’s default GUI interface. The role of the CineGUI interface as the primary interface for
script playback has been reduced due to changes in Digital Cinema mastering and Composition Playlist (CPL)
authoring requirements. While CineGUI may still be used for QPE script playback it does not provide playback
support for new Digital Cinema assets including Composition Playlists.
The Acuity’s standard GUI should be used in place of CineGUI if the scripts being played contain JPEG2000 digital
cinema assets including Composition Playlists.
