2K DCI JPEG2000 Recording Overview
The QuVIS Acuity implements the optional 2K DCI JPEG2000 Recording in the same manner as QPE content
recording. One important distinction is that JPEG2000 requires the use of QMF3 as the QuVIS Media Format
(QMF) and only allows the creation of expanded clips; it also requires a dual-link (372M) input source.
JPEG2000 content can be recorded directly to the QuVIS Acuity and can be manually added to a Virtual Tape
project using the
Virtual Tape Editor
menu page. JPEG2000 content (expanded) can be recorded directly to a
Virtual Tape (VTP) by placing the VTP under remote control (RS-422) and using a remote editing system (e.g.
BVE9100, TLC, etc.) to perform assembly edits directly to the VTP.
JPEG2000 expanded clips may also originate from sequential files encoded offline using software programs such
as QuStudio. Audio track asset files (clips) may also be prepared (assembled) for use in a DCP using QuStudio.
Once image (video) and audio track asset files have been transferred to the Acuity (via QuStudio) those files may
be added to a VTP project using the Virtual Tape Editor GUI interface.
Real-time JPEG2000 Record – Video Input Settings
Real-time JPEG2000 Record setup requirements are similar to those used for QPE recording. All of the necessary
settings needed to setup the Acuity to record JPEG2000 content are located on the
Record
menu pages.
Image Format
– this control is used to specify the clip format and resolution of the JPEG2000 clip asset.
Input Source
– this control is used to specify the video input source. JPEG2000 image formats require this control
to be set to
Serial Digital (SDI)
as illustrated in the above screenshot.
Note:
All currently supported JPEG2000 image formats are
Dual-link HD-SDI
formats meaning that the
input video signal requires two HD-SDI input channels (link A and link B).
Image Quality (SNR)
– the Image Quality settings used to record DCI JPEG2000 content (VSP version 9 hardware
and JPEG2000 Real-time Record Module required) are presented as a
Low
,
Medium
, or
High
value. These three
settings (used only for DCI JPEG2000 record setup) are roughly equal to 48dB, 54dB, and 60dB respectively.
The QuVIS Acuity does not currently record JPEG2000 content at a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) or fixed data rate (e.g.
250Mbits/sec) but rather employs a more efficient quality priority to the encode process. This Quality Priority
Encoding (QPE) method is a patented process developed by QuVIS for wavelet-based recording including QPE
and JPEG2000 content. In simple terms, the user sets the Quality level of the content using the
Image Quality
(SNR)
control (Record Video menu page) and the Acuity will ensure that the quality level for the entire recorded clip
will not drop below the specified threshold.
