When a switch module inserted to a switch module slot issues a power-on request, the EM
card checks the power consumption of the switch module and turns on the power of the
switch module if the power-on is possible within the maximum power consumption
management described above.
When a CPU blade inserted into a CPU blade slot requests the permission of using power,
the EM card permits the CPU blade to use the power if the power consumption is possible
within the maximum power consumption management described above.
NOTE:
A CPU blade subject to power-on issues the permission of
using power to the EM card. The power is not turned on if the EM card
does not permit the CPU blade to use the power due to an event such as
power shortage.
The EM card can determine the priority of CPU blade slots. If the maximum power
consumption management inhibits the CPU blades to work with the maximum power, the
EM card distributes electric power to the CPU blades according to the priority determined.
(See Chapter 4 for details.)
NOTE:
If the same priority levels are assigned to the slots, the EM
card distributes electric power preferentially to the blade server (Model
name: B120b-Lw, B120d-h, B120d, B110d, B120e, B120e-h, B120f,
B120f-h, and B120g-h) which has larger effect on power-saving.
With the Blade Enclosure Inter Connect feature, the EM card can control the power
consumption of several Blade Enclosures in the same rack assembly. This feature is called
"rack maximum power consumption management".
NOTE:
With rack maximum power consumption management, the
upper limit values for each Blade Enclosure dynamically change.
However, the power supply units are not shared through the Blade
Enclosures. Accordingly, the power supply units in each Blade
Enclosure cannot use the power exceeding its upper limit.
IMPORTANT:
If more than one CPU blade is powered on at the same
time (e.g. pressing the power button), some of the CPU blade may get
an insufficient power response. In such a case, try powering on the CPU
blade after waiting for other CPU blade to finish booting.
