The tipper heater is hot and can burn your skin! Make sure the device has been turned
off, or the heater has been turned off and no cards have been produced, for at least 10
minutes to allow adequate cooling time before touching the tipper heater.
Some of the modules inside the ExpressCard you are servicing may look different from
the photos in this procedure. However, the steps of the procedure are the same, and are
unrelated to / unaffected by the appearance of the modules.
The exit transport module takes cards from the XY transport module after embossing, and moves them
either to the card rejection bin or to the tipper module. It includes an integrated MagnePrint reader, which
can optionally be used to read each issued card’s magnetic stripe and produce a digital identifier (DI) for
later validation that the card is genuine and that its encoded data has not been altered. The exit transport
is attached to the center of the device’s top deck plate.
The tipper module receives cards from the exit transport module, stamps them with heat-fused foil from
the tipper foil roll, then moves them to the card output bin on a cushion of air. It is located in the front
middle of the top deck plate, just to the rear of the card output bin.
Because both modules are interconnected both by cabling and by an exit ramp on the tipper module that is
mechanically captured by the exit transport module, replacing them together as a combined module can
be faster than replacing either module independently.
