Section 5 Maintenance and Alignment

CAUTION:

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DESOLDERING ANY OF THE RESISTORS AS A
LARGE AMOUNT OF HEAT IS REQUIRED. DO NOT PULL VERY HARD OR
THE FEED THROUGH HOLES ON THE PC BOARD COULD BE DAMAGED.

NOTE:

The resistors should be ordered as an assembly, with the thermistor already
attached as this is very critical to proper transmitter operation.

5.6.1.3

Installation of Isolation Assembly

If a new Isolation Board is being installed be sure to set the ID jumpers to the proper
location as marked on the PC Board next to the jumper pins. The safest method is to set
the ID the same as the board being replaced.

The Isolation assembly should slide back into place fairly easily as long as none of the
pins are bent. Re-install the 4 hex standoffs and the 2 ribbon cables, making sure that
the cables are connected to the same port from which they were removed. Be careful not
to over-tighten the hex standoffs.

If necessary, re-install the harmonic filter being careful to make sure it is inserted fully
into the friction fitting on the hybrid (note the mark made during removal) and rotated
correctly (incorrect rotation could cause the doors to hit the directional couplers.

5.7

Removing the Harmonic Filter

This procedure will only take 5 to 10 minutes to accomplish provided there is adequate
room above the transmitter. It will take longer if the filter has to be removed from the
back. The harmonic filter can be raised or removed as follows:

STEP 1

Remove the RF output line at the top of the transmitter.

STEP 2

Remove the 4 screws holding the square plate where the line goes

through the top of the transmitter.

STEP 3

Mark each of the directional couplers for up/down orientation and

position on the filter. Loosen the clamps holding the directional
couplers and remove them. It would be a good idea to refer to "5.8
Directional Coupler Removal and Replacement" on page 5-12.

STEP 4

Place a reference mark on the filter just above the upper PA deck clamp.

This will be a depth reference and rotation mark when re-installing the
filter. Loosen the 2 pipe clamps holding the harmonic filter to the deck
plates. The harmonic filter should slide up out of the hybrid and out the
