4.6.1.2.5 IPA Supply Voltage
Each IPA in the Z16HD+ is fed from 2 of the power supplies. IPA_AB is fed from PS1
and PS2 and IPA_CD is fed from PS3 and PS4. The IPA supply lines are diode OR’ed
together on the Rectifier Boards before being sent to the IPAs. This means the loss of
one supply will not cause the loss of the IPA and will allow the transmitter to stay on the
air.
4.6.2
Single Phase PA Power Supply
Refer to the Overall System Block Diagram for the following discussion. The
transmitter single phase AC inputs connect directly to the AC mains contactors K1 (in
the PA Cabinet) and K3 (in the Auxiliary cabinet). K1 feeds PS1 and PS2, while K3
feeds PS3 and PS4. It is important to note that all four power supplies are identical.
Each one su52Vdc for the PAs and IPAs. PS1 and PS2 supply power to the AB
power block while PS3 and PS4 supply power for the CD power block. T1, T2, T3 and
T4 primaries must be tapped for the proper AC input voltage. The tapping chart can be
found on the Overall System Block Diagram. Each transformer has one center tapped
secondary with the center connection being the rectified DC output of +52Vdc. The DC
outputs are filtered by a large choke and 3 large filter caps. Each of the transformer
secondary taps is connected to an SCR which is controlled by ON/OFF signals from the
PS Controller board via the Rectifier Boards. The secondaries of the transformers use
the unique tap switching design to give a small window of coarse regulation
(approximately 2Vdc change per tap) to compensate for AC line variations.
Each transformer also has a 16V center tapped secondary which is used to supply the
gate drive voltage (V+_SCR) for the tap SCRs. This winding is only required on the
single phase supply and is necessary due to the large drive current needed to turn on the
SCRs.
