Watkiss DigiVAC Service Manual - Issue 2 - 29/11/04
101
Procedure
1. For each computer on the network, input an IP address. Note that each IP
address must have the same Subnet address, or first three numbers. Define
the Subnet mask for each computer as 255.255.255.0. For further informa-
tion on setting up the IP address and Subnet mask on a computer using
Windows 95 or later, refer to the Windows help topic ‘IP addresses, static
configuration’.
2. Check the DigiVAC’s Subnet mask by touching
NETWORK SETTINGS
in the
MENU
window on the GUI panel. If the subnet mask is not set to
255.255.255.0, proceed to step 3. of this procedure.
3. Access the DigiVAC’s boot firmware, using a computer linked to it via an
RS232 cable (for further details, refer to Section 4.4.3).
4. In the Hyperterminal window, type
n
to access the Ethernet network set-
tings menu. The menu asks you to define each aspect of the Ethernet set-
tings, one at a time (see Figure 4:29).

5. At the prompt
MachineName
the DigiVAC can be allocated a name.
This is particularly useful for networks with several DigiVACs. Type in a
name and press return.
6. At the prompt
EnableDHCP
type
d
(for ‘disable’) if no DHCP server is
present. Press return.
7. At the prompt
StaticIPAddr
type in the IP address that you want to
give the DigiVAC. Press return.
8. At the prompt
StaticIPSubnet
type in
255.255.255.0
. Press
return.
9. At the prompt
StaticGateIPAddr
press return.
10. At the prompt
DownLoadIPAddr
you have a choice. If you input the IP
address of a particular computer on the network, then the DigiVAC will
treat it as the default source for downloading application software updates.
Note that software can still be easily downloaded from any other computer
on the network. Alternatively, press return without inputting an IP address
if you would prefer not to have a default machine.
11. At the prompt
DownLoadFile
enter the file name required (usually
Varioapp.lzw) and press return.
12. At the prompt
SyslogEnable
press return.
13. At the prompt
SyslogIPAddr
press return.
14. The DigiVAC is now addressed correctly for the network. Type
exit
to
leave the Telnet window.
