Camshaft journal O.D.
Standard (point “c”): 17.466 – 17.484 mm (0.6876
– 0.6883 in)
Standard (point “d”): 21.959 – 21.980 mm (0.8645
– 0.8654 in)
Camshaft Sprocket Inspection

Inspect the camshaft sprocket in the following
procedures:
1) Remove the camshaft sprocket. Refer to “Engine
Top Side Disassembly (Page 1D-18)”.
2) Inspect the teeth of the camshaft sprocket for wear
or damage.
If they are worn or damaged, replace the camshaft
and cam chain as a set.
3) Install the camshaft sprocket. Refer to “Engine Top
Side Assembly (Page 1D-22)”.
Cam Chain Tension Adjuster Inspection

The cam chain tension adjuster is maintained at the
proper tension by an automatically adjusted.
1) Remove the cam chain tension adjuster. Refer to
“Engine Top Side Disassembly (Page 1D-18)”.
2) Insert the (–) screwdriver into the slotted end of cam
chain tension adjuster and turn it clockwise to lessen
the tension and release the (–) screwdriver. Then
check the push rod movement. If the push rod is
stuck or spring mechanism failed, replace the cam
chain tension adjuster with a new one.
3) Install the cam chain tension adjuster. Refer to
“Engine Top Side Assembly (Page 1D-22)”.
Cam Chain Guide Inspection

Inspect the cam chain guide in the following procedures:
1) Remove the cam chain guide. Refer to “Engine Top
Side Disassembly (Page 1D-18)”.
2) Check the contacting surface of the cam chain
guide. If it is worn or damaged, replace it with a new
one.
3) Install the cam chain guide. Refer to “Engine Top
Side Assembly (Page 1D-22)”.
