Edit a Virtual Tape
There are two primary methods for editing a virtual tape: local (VTP Editor) and remote.
Editing a VTP remotely is performed using an external (remote) edit controller to modify the VTP timeline. The VTP
timeline appears to the edit controller as a linear digital tape deck. The remote edit controller is used to record new
video and/or audio assets directly to the timeline while the virtual tape is under its control.
The
VTP EDITOR (2/2) menu page
allows you to edit and preview a VTP from the front panel GUI in real-time. VTP
track assets or individual edits can be modified, moved or copied directly. New assets (expanded clips and subtitle
files) can be added to the timeline locally as well.
Edit a Virtual Tape (Remote)
To remotely edit a virtual tape, follow the steps below.
Requirements
•
QuVIS Acuity with one or more virtual tapes already created
•
Edit controller supporting the Sony 9-pin serial protocol, connected to the Acuity via RS-422 cable.
•
Video and audio input/output connections
1.
Navigate to the
Setup Serial 2/8
menu page and turn on the RS-422
Sony
serial protocol.
2.
To turn on external remote control, press the
Local/Remote

menu page and select the virtual tape (.vtp) file to be edited.
4.
Press the VTR
PLAY
button on the front panel. A message box will appear indicating that the selected virtual
tape is under remote control.
The QuVIS Acuity and the virtual tape are now under the remote control of your edit controller.
Edit a Virtual Tape (Local – VTP Editor)
The VTP Editor menu page is a graphical non-linear editor interface for editing virtual tapes from the local front
panel GUI or from a remote PC workstation using the QuDAC utility. The VTP Editor provides complete access to
the virtual tape assets and provides a robust set of editing commands and functions.
If the VTP Editor is used to edit a virtual tape project, changes to the project VTP file are not updated until the
Save
or
Save As
commands are invoked. The system does however provide an
Autosave
file (stored in the VTP project
directory) that is updated each time a change is made. This allows the operator to recover lost edits in the event the
intended changes were not saved to the projects primary virtual tape file.
To use the autosave.vtp file to recover lost changes, make sure the VTP file is not loaded in the VTP Editor and
copy the autosave.vtp file over the project VTP (*.vtp) file. The copied autosave.vtp file must be renamed to the
same name of the file it replaces.
