QShell via serial connection
The following describes how to open a QShell session using a RS-232 serial connection.
1.
Connect one end of the 9-pin null modem cable to Acuity’s serial port A and the other to your computer. Serial
Port A is located on the front of unit to the right of the power button.
2.
Start the terminal application on the PC. On a Windows
®
computer, HyperTerminal is installed as part of the
operating system and is a good choice.
3.
If this is your first time connecting to a QuVIS Acuity or other QuVIS video server via the serial port, you will
likely need to create a connection profile for the terminal application.
The settings of the terminal program must match the serial settings of the Acuity. If you are unsure of the
Acuity’s current setting, navigate to the
SETUP – Serial
menu page to review the settings.
The factory default settings for the Acuity’s RS-232 serial port A are as follows:
•
Baud (bits per second) – 38400
•
Data bits – 8
•
Parity – None
•
Stop bits – 1
•
Flow control – Xon/Xoff
4.
If everything is connected and configured properly, you can access the QShell command line by pressing the
ENTER (on PC) button. This will display a system prompt allowing you to enter commands.
Example command prompt:
Acuity:>
QuVIS Acuity
™
