Table 1-2: Bus Slot Configureation
Slots and Loading
The GTXI has slots for GTXI-designed carrier boards and other
GTXI-compatible products. The GT7020, GT7021 and GTXI-702
carrier boards are for ISA boards, while the
GT7720 and GT7730
carrier boards are designed for PCI and CPCI/PXI boards, and can
be used with the GT7700 only.
The GTXI carrier board approach has several advantages. With
carrier boards, PC plug-in boards are inserted and removed from the
front of the GTXI using a method similar to that found on
VXI/VME systems. Front-loading is a major improvement over the
top-loading method used on desktop and standard industrial
computers since the computer does not need to be opened or taken
apart in order to remove or insert boards. The board connectors face
the front, making it easier to connect cables.
The carrier board’s PCB power planes buffer and shield the PC
plug-in boards from one another to prevent interference and cross
talk between instruments.
In addition, the carrier boards offer mapping offset addressing
capability.
GTXI-700 Slots
The GTXI-700 has 14 slots (see Figure 1-4). ISA bus PC boards
(standard 8- or 16-bit ISA boards from any vendor) are loaded on
GTXI carrier boards and then placed in available slots in the
platform.
