Chapter 4 - Assigning Resources
The GTXI buffer board can be programmed to assign resources to
the ISA bus. This chapter explains how to assign resources (IRQ,
DMA, I/O, MEM) to the GT7700’s system controller, the GTXI’s
GTPC-7586 controller module, the host computer, or the GTXI
instrument platform.
ISA Bus Hardware Buffering
On the GT7700, controller bus isolation is accomplished on the
system controller bridgeboard.
On the GTXI-700, controller bus isolation is accomplished on the
buffer board (if using the GTXI in stand-alone mode) or the GTXI
Bus Expander (if using the GTXI in bus extender mode). There are
currently three boards that perform this buffering:
Bridge board
(Part of the GT7700 system
controller)
GTXI-700-BF
(Part of each GTPC)
GTXI-701-PC PCT
(Part of GTXI-701 Bus
Expansion Kit)
The GTXI-701-PCT is paired with the GTXI-701-PCR to form the
GTXI-701-PC Bus Expansion Kit. A six-foot shielded cable links
the two boards together.
The GTXI-701-PCT can be thought of as the “transmitter” board. It
is installed inside the host computer in an available ISA board slot.
The GTXI-701-PCR receives the bus signals from the GTXI-701-
PCT and routes them to the GTXI backplane.
