Chapter 2. Configuration information and instructions
This chapter provides information about updating the firmware and using the
configuration utilities.
Updating the firmware
The firmware for the server is periodically updated and is available for download on
the Web. Go to http://www.lenovo.com/support to check for the latest level of
firmware, such as BIOS code, vital product data (VPD) code, device drivers, and
service processor firmware. Download the latest firmware for the server; then, install
the firmware, using the instructions that are included with the downloaded file.
When you replace a device in the server, you might have to either update the
server with the latest version of the firmware that is stored in memory on the device
or restore the pre-existing firmware from a diskette or CD image.
v BIOS code is stored in ROM on the system board.
v
BMC firmware is stored in ROM on the mini-baseboard management controller
on the system board.
v Ethernet firmware is stored in ROM on the Ethernet controller.
v
ServeRAID firmware is stored in ROM on the ServeRAID adapter.
v SATA firmware (simple-swap models) is stored in ROM on the integrated SATA
controller.
v
SAS/SATA firmware (hot-swap models) is stored in ROM on the SAS/SATA
controller on the system board.
Configuring the server
The following configuration programs are available to configure the server:
v EasyStartup DVD
The Lenovo EasyStartup DVD that comes with the server provides programs to
help you set up the server and install an operating system. The EasyStartup
program detects installed hardware devices and guides you through the process
of creating a response file and performing an unattended installation of the
operating system and associated device drivers.

DVD” on page 14.
v Configuration/Setup Utility program
The Configuration/Setup Utility program is part of the basic input/output system
(BIOS). Use it to configure serial port assignments, change interrupt request
(IRQ) settings, change the startup-device sequence, set the date and time, and
set passwords. For information about using this program, see “Using the
Configuration/Setup Utility program” on page 17.
v LSI Logic Configuration Utility program
Use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to configure devices that are
attached to the SAS/SATA controller. For information about using this program,
see “Using the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program” on page 24.
Important: If the server is a simple-swap SATA model that contains a SATA
RAID back plate, you can use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to
configure the simple-swap SATA hard disk drives.
