Acoustic AC Mode (AAC)
In Acoustic AC (AAC) Mode AFM, a piezo-electric transducer in the
nose assembly drives the cantilever oscillation. Note that the nose
assembly (
) includes two contact pins through which the drive
signal is routed to the transducer. AAC Mode probe cantilevers have
resonance frequencies typically in the 100-300 kHz range and a nominal
force constant of 40nN/nm. Any sample plate can be used.

To image in AAC Mode, first follow the steps from
:
a
Insert the nose assembly into the scanner.
b
Insert a probe into the nose assembly.
c
Place the scanner in the microscope base.
d
Align the laser on the cantilever.
e
Insert and align the detector.
f
Prepare the sample and place it on the sample plate.
2
Choose
Controls > Camera View
to open the Camera View video
window and adjust the video system to focus on the cantilever.
3
Use the
Close
switch on the HEB to bring the tip close to the sample
(within 1-2 mm).
4
In PicoView choose
Mode > ACAFM.
